GROUP therapy
Children share their experiences, thoughts, feelings, difficulties, and coping skills with other group members.
The power of being with peers.
Why is group so important?
Within the group therapy setting, children are taught important social and emotional development skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills during socialization activities.
Group provides an opportunity to:
Learn how to collaborate with others
Learn how to problem-solve with others
Practice turn-taking and sharing
Learn to provide social support to others
Engage with others appropriately around a shared interest
In a supportive and fun group environment, kids learn to understand, manage, and face the thoughts, body sensations, and behaviors that contribute to strong emotions.
What can I expect?
Through group counseling, children assist each other in identifying and normalizing their feelings and processing the changes. With the guidance of the therapist, children develop positive coping skills and resilience, which benefits them now and in the future.
Children share their experiences, thoughts, feelings, difficulties, and coping skills with other group members through therapeutic activities, including bibliotherapy (books), therapeutic games, creative writing, art activities, and play therapy.
Groups will often include five to seven children of similar age and grade level that meet weekly with a therapist. Group topics are designed to meet the needs of the community.
Our solution
Group therapy provides the perfect setting for enhanced learning.
Kids will learn about what emotions are and what they do for us, and they will practice ways to understand and accept their emotions in order to reduce any problematic emotion-based behaviors.
Parents and caregivers will also learn strategies to support their children in effectively coping with uncomfortable emotions. Research shows that practicing and refining these skills in a group setting is effective in creating positive change.
Our solution
The research shows just how valuable group therapy can be.
Research has shown that play therapy provides an environment where children can measure their own abilities, express themselves, and learn how to use their knowledge to take maximum advantages of their capacities.
This setting allows for maximum benefits and enhances children’s social-emotional skills, thus, providing greater ease across settings including school, home, and within peer groups.
